On The Day of your
Procedure:
Try to organise somebody to pick you up once you have
finished. As you will be given a light sedative you are not safe to drive yourself home.
- You may not wear any eye makeup or aerosol products including perfume and cologne to the clinic on the day of
your procedure.
- Soft contacts should be removed 1 week prior to your procedure, hard
contacts 4 weeks prior to the procedure.
- You should wear loose comfortable clothing, keep in mind that the
laser room is always kept at a low temperature. It is suggested that you don't wear
woollen jumpers or clothing with small fibres on it, to ensure the environment of the
treatment area is totally particle free.
- Please arrive one half hour before your scheduled procedure time and
check in at the front desk.
- Ensure you have signed an informed consent form if not done prior to
this time.
- Organise payment of your account - which we request be done on the
day of surgery.
Preparation For Your Procedure:
Mild anesthetic eye drops will be placed in your eyes. Each eye
will be cleansed prior to your procedure. LASIK patients will be administered an
anti-anxiety medication about half an hour prior to the procedure. This will help relax
and calm your eyes. If you are feeling a little anxious a staff member will be at your
side. Also, your doctor is always available to speak with you
Entering The Laser Room:
 |
|
When both you and the physician are prepared you will be escorted
into the laser room. Upon entering you will be asked to lay back in the laser chair. For
most procedures a second application of anesthetic eye drops is administered at this time.
Once you are comfortable, the doctor will ask you to fixate on a little green light. The
entire procedure will last about 5 minutes per eye. After your procedure, a third set of
drops will be administered. Depending on the procedure, a therapeutic contact lens may be
placed on your eye to protect and eliminate or reduce any post-operative discomfort. |
After Your
Procedure:
Following your procedure, you will receive your patient kit
which includes medications, instructions and scheduled dates for your post-operative
exams. LASIK patients will remain seated in the post-operative lounge for approximately 30
minutes. The doctor will then ensure the flap is properly fixated.
After Leaving the
Center:
Once you leave our centre, it is recommended to go home and
sleep for the rest of the day. This is to insure the most rapid healing result. It is also
very important not to rub your eyes under ANY circumstances. Each patient will be provided
with sunglasses/eye shields anticipating this possibility. You will be given eye drops and
oral medication. You will be instructed on how to use your medication. All medications and
drops will be packaged in a convenient waist pack along with sunglasses/eye shields making
the ride home more comfortable.
After Care:
Following your procedure you should consider the following
guidelines:
- use your eye drops exactly as instructed by your doctor;
- do not return to any vigorous sports or water sports until advised by
your doctor;
- DO NOT rub your eye (s);
- do not wear eye make-up until advised by your doctor (usually two
weeks).
